Our Lady of the White
Patrona and Mayor Perpetua de Consuegra (Toledo)
As a patron and "Mayor of Honor and Perpetua," she was the first to see Our Lady of the White, an old advocation of the knights of the Order of St. John; on the day of her feast the city honors her with Rosario de la Aurora and procession.
Origin and history
The devotion to Our Lady of the White in Consuegra appears historically linked to the knights of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, lords of the villa for centuries, for whom it was his special advocation; only later was he officially recognized as patron. Today she is venerated in the parish church of Santa Maria, with an intense cultual life: ninth, Rosary and Eucharist daily, and procession on 8 September. The "Finibusterre" appeal and the link to the Calderico hill (where the castle and the mills are) belong to the local tradition, without documentary confirmation as an official title.
A strong civil meaning is attached to his religious condition: he is "Mayor of Honor and Perpetua" of the city, an expression of the link between Consuegra and his patron. A very marked feature of his party is the Rosario de la Aurora, which runs through the streets on the morning of September 8.
Canonical coronation: not found in the sources.
