Our Lady of Consolation
Azuaga Patron (Badajoz)
Azuaga is a patron of Our Lady of Consolation, in her great Gothic-isabelin church - one of the jewels of the south of Extremadura, declared Good of Cultural Interest.
Origin and history
The parish temple of Azuaga, dedicated to Our Lady of Consolation, began to be built in 1511 and was concluded in the 16th century; it is a remarkable isabelin Gothic building with influences of the Portuguese Manuelin and Renaissance traces, declared Good of Cultural Interest.
The Virgin of Consolation is the patron of Azuaga, and her devotion is attached to the main parish of the villa. The accessible sources document above all the history of the temple and its heritage value, without a concrete foundational account of the image.
Own liturgical party and canonical coronation: they are not safely recorded in the sources.
