Our Lady of Granada
Patrona and Mayor Perpetua de Guillena (Sevilla) · crowned in 2007
In the Gothic-Mudejar church of Guillena, Our Lady of Granada, a perpetual patron and mayor of the villa, was venerated, crowned in 2007, and processed twice on the same day as her party.
Origin and history
The devotion to Our Lady of Granada in Guillena is documented at least since the 16th century; the present parish, Gothic-Mudejar, dates back to the early 15th century. In the 18th century, a new image of a candlestick was enthroned in the altarpiece to dress, of a metre and a half, which became the title of the temple and of the sacramental Brotherhood, documented with this configuration at least since 1792. The fruit of the grenade is interpreted as a sign of fertility, new life and unity of the Church.
She is a patron of Guillena and holds the title of Mayor Perpetua of the villa. His canonical coronation took place on 9 June 2007, inside the parish for the rain, with extraordinary procession later on 21 July. A very characteristic feature of his party, on September 8, is the double procession - morning and evening - through the streets of the village.
