Our Lady of Granada
Patron saint of Moguer (Huelva)
The great Baroque church that is presided over by Moguer, famous for his sister tower of the Giralda, is dedicated to Our Lady of Granada, patron of the seaside villa from which the discovers left.
Origin and history
The church of Nuestra Señora de la Granada, the main temple of Moguer, rises in the 18th century over the ancient Mudejar parish of the 14th century, brought down after the earthquake of Lisbon in 1755; its famous tower is known as the younger sister of the Giralda of Seville. The existence of the old temple is documented at least from a will of September 8, 1343, granted by a neighbor of Moguer.
Our Lady of Granada is the patron of Moguer, a marine villa linked to the trips of the discovery of America, and its church is the center of the religious life of the municipality. The accessible sources do not accurately specify the date of your party or a canonical coronation.
