Marian devotion
Where is he?
Our Lady of Salvation, called in Arabic Sayidat Al-Najat, is the Syrian-Catholic cathedral in Baghdad, Iraq. It is the seat of the Syrian-Catholic archipelago of the capital and a place of prayer and memory for the Iraqi Christian community. This fact sheet describes a royal cathedral and a liturgical advocation; it does not present it as a place of an apparition.
The investigation did not locate in the cartographic consultation an unequivocal coordinate of the building. That's why the point 33.3062, 44.3872 is kept to precision localityas a reference for Baghdad. It should not be read as GPS from the altar, the memorial or the exact point of the attack.
Documented history
Vatican News identifies the cathedral as the Syrian-Catholic headquarters of Baghdad and documents that on 31 October 2010 he suffered a terrorist attack during the liturgy. 48 people died, including two priests, and many others were injured. The temple was linked to the memory of the faithful and ministers killed, whose cause of beatification was described by Vatican News as an ongoing process in the information consulted.
The Holy See also documented Pope Francis' visit to the cathedral on March 5, 2021, during his apostolic journey to Iraq. The meeting with bishops, priests, religious, seminarians, catechists and laity placed the temple at the centre of a call to peace, reconciliation and coexistence. The papal visit is an ecclesial and historical fact; it is not in itself an approval of supernatural phenomena associated with the name of the Virgin.
The French heritage source on the Christian buildings of Baghdad presents the cathedral as a reminder of the tragic history of the Christians of the city and Iraq. The name "of Salvation" is understood within the prayer and hope of a Church who has experienced persecution, displacement and mourning.
Tradition and devotion
The advocation of Our Lady of Salvation expresses the trust of the faithful in the intercession of Mary. In Catholic practice, asking Mary to accompany a community does not mean to attribute the worship due to God. The cathedral is a place where the Church celebrates the liturgy, remembers its dead and asks the Lord for strength to remain faithful.
The research report does not provide a foundational account of Marian apparition for the cathedral. That is why this section is not filled with general legends, nor is a specific intervention not reflected in the verified sources attributed to the image.
Legend and limits of the record
There is no Marian apparition linked to Our Lady of Salvation or an approved miracle associated with the temple. It does record the history of the 2010 attack, the memory of its victims and the Pope's visit. They are different realities: the martyrdom or suffering of a community should not be transformed into a test of supernatural.
Ecclesial State
The state indicated is veneration _ permittedin the sense of a Syrian-Catholic cathedral and a place of public veneration documented by ecclesial sources. It does not mean that there is a statement about apparitions or miracles. The source of state is used to identify the cathedral and its ecclesial belonging, not to affirm more than it says.
Anecdotes and stories
Francisco's visit on March 5, 2021 had a special weight because it occurred in the same place marked by the violence of 2010. The meeting reminded those who died and encouraged the Church of Iraq to continue to sow reconciliation. The cathedral thus became a place of national and ecclesial memory, while still being a local church where daily faith is celebrated.
The location accuracy of the map is deliberate. The cathedral can be located in Baghdad by ecclesial and heritage sources, but an inner point is not invented when the cartographic consultation used does not unequivocally confirm it.
Prayer
Holy Mary, Our Lady of Salvation, intercedes before the Lord for the Syrian-Catholic Church in Baghdad, for the victims of violence and for their families. It comforts those who suffer, protects the Christians of Iraq and guides us to the peace of Jesus Christ. Amen.
