Our Lady of the Tuiza
Patrona de la Alta Sanabria (Lubián, Zamora)
In a valley of the Alta Sanabria, the Tuiza sanctuary guards the patron of the region, the Virgin of the Snow; the Galician reapers offered him their sickles on their return from the harvest.
Origin and history
The present sanctuary is a baroque temple of the late 18th century, in the term of Chanos (Lubián), declared Good of Cultural Interest in 1995; it had a first location in the area of "Cavados." The advocation, Our Lady of the Snow, known as Virgin of the Tuiza, is deeply rooted in the High Sanabria.
A unique feature is the devotion of the Galician reapers, who were entrusted to her on her travels to Castile and offered her their noises on her return from the campaign; the pilgrims who passed through the area were also entrusted. His Romeria, on the last Sunday of September, brings together the faithful of the neighbouring peoples and Portugal, with procession, gaitas and fair.
Canonical coronation: not found in the sources.
