Our Lady of the Angustias
Marian Invocation of Aranjuez (Community of Madrid)
Patroness of Aranjuez, also called Virgin of the Angustias of Alpajés. According to tradition, the image was hidden by some Moors in the Bird Caz and found by a pious man. In 1609 the Royal Brotherhood was founded with statutes approved by the Cardinal of Toledo. The current Baroque church rose between 1681 and 1705. The original image was destroyed in the 1936 fire; the present one is the work of Felix Granda (1940).
