Since 1474, when she was invoked as a lawyer against the plague, Our Lady of Virtues is venerated in a sanctuary - an extramurous monastery, Good of Cultural Interest.
Origin and history
Our Lady of Virtues is a patron of Villena; according to tradition, she was proclaimed in 1474 a lawyer against the plague and patron of the village. Its sanctuary, extramuros, has its origin in a hermitage of the late 14th century - of which remains in the crypt -, with a rich baroque shrimp of the 18th century; the whole holy monastery was declared Good of Cultural Interest in 2007.
Devotion is lived with intense participation in the patronal parties and Romeries to the sanctuary. It is one of the great focuses of the Marian religiosity of the Upper Vinalopó.
