The sanctuary is linked to the foundation of Yaoundé itself: in 1901 the Fathers of the Holy Spirit (Espirians) settled on the hill of Mvolyé, land obtained from the family of the local chief Karl Atangana, and there they built mission and church dedicated to the Virgin under the title of Our Lady of the Apostles. The local chronicles point out that on that hill was placed under the protection of Mary the nascent development of the city and the country.

The image and the sanctuary

On the hill of Mvolyé is the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Apostles, with an image of Mary venerated by pilgrims from all over the country. Various ecclesial sources describe the place as a reference Marian sanctuary for Cameroon.

Sponsorship and coronation

Santuario mariano reconocido y promovido por la arquidiócesis de Yaundé, santuario nacional de hecho por su gran irradiación, aunque el título jurídico estricto de «santuario nacional» no consta. No consta coronación canónica.

Party and devotion

The Immaculate Conception and the Assumption are held with special solemnity. There are numerous family conversions, vocations and reconciliations linked to pilgrimages, although there are no official lists of recognized miracles.
