Our Lady of the Miracles of Zion

Sailor Sanctuary of Caion (A Laracha, A Coruña)

In the place of O Outeiro, on the sea of the Costa da Morte, the sanctuary of the Miracles of Caion hosts one of the great Marian romaneries of A Coruña, next to a "Holy Fonte" held for healing.

Place: Caion (A Laracha), A Coruña
Sanctuary: Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Miracles (Compost Baroque, 19th century)
Romeria: 8 September (Galicia Tourist Interest Festival)
Rasgo: "Holy Fonte" and stone rise to O Milladeiro

Origin and history

The present shrine is a 19th-century, baroque-style, compost-Roman temple, built where there was an ancient Romanesque church; the image remains for the rest of the year in the parish of Our Lady of the help of Zion and goes up to the sanctuary for the Romany. This is documented at least since the 18th century and is one of the most important Marian celebrations in the province, recognized as the Galicia Tourist Interest Festival.

The Romeria is linked to the "Holy Fonte" next to the sanctuary, to which popular piety attributes healing properties, and to the ancient custom of climbing stones to the high, in the place of O Milladeiro, as a vative gesture. Pilgrims from all over the Costa da Morte come to venerate and touch the image.

"Our Lady of the Miracles of Zion, pray for us."
