Our Lady of Remedies

Shrine of the Mount do Remedia · Sarria (Lugo)

In the Upper Caesar, on Sarria, a hermitage surrounded by oaks welcomes the Romeria of Los Remedios, to which the Sarrians walk every 8 September on steep roads.

Lugar: Sarria, Lugo (Alto do César / Monte do Remedio)
Santuario: Ermita de la Virxe dos Remedios
Romería: 8 y 9 de septiembre
Entorno: carballeira y «Campo da Virxe»

Origin and history

The sanctuary is a small hermitage in a carballeira of the High Caesar, over Sarria, around which one of the roseries of the region is celebrated. A local reference notes that in 1935 a new hermitage was inaugurated with the entronization of a new image, which attests to the existence of the sanctuary and devotion at least in the first half of the 20th century.

The main devotional feature is the pilgrimage of Los Remedios on 8 and 9 September: the faithful go up on foot on steep roads to the hermitage, with mass and procession in the "Campo da Virxe" and later popular coexistence under the oaks. The sources do not collect a precise foundational legend.

«Nuestra Señora de los Remedios, Madre de Sarria, ruega por nosotros.»

Formal patronage and canonical coronation: they are not safely recorded in the sources.

Patronazgo formal, origen y coronación: no constan.
