Our Lady of Saints

Patrona de Móstoles (Madrid)

In a 17th-century hermitage donated by the mother of St. Simon of Rojas, Our Lady of Saints, patron of Móstoles, is sold, whose "down" on September 12 tears the faithful.

Origin and history

The tradition tells that some boys who played the ball discovered, in a cavity next to a wall, an image of the hidden Virgin; the people venerated her right there and proclaimed her patron. It is documented that there was an oratory primgenie at the site of the finding. In 1602, Constance de Rojas, the mother of the holy Trinitarian, Simon de Rojas, donated his next house to expand it: the present hermitage began on May 7, 1602 and was concluded on August 24, 1605. It was declared Good of Cultural Interest in 1994.

She's a patron of Móstoles. His feast, on September 12, has the most characteristic feature of the "downfall of the Virgin": the image descends from his shrimp to the chariot by lanes moved by a circle, while the people sing the Salve, a gesture that excites the faithful. It is seen accompanied by a small priestly figure, the "curita de la Virgen," which tradition says found next to it.
