The Monastery of Rila
The Rila Monastery was founded in the 10th century by St. John of Rila, the patron saint of Bulgaria. The monastery is one of the holiest sites in the country and has been a center of pilgrimage for centuries.
The Church of the Assumption
The monastery's main church is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The frescoes that decorate the walls of the church depict scenes from the life of the Virgin and are considered masterpieces of Bulgarian art.

O Virgin of Rila, Mother of Mercy and Queen of Bulgaria. You who have accompanied the Bulgarian people in their most difficult times, intercede for us before your Son Jesus. Protect our land, strengthen our faith, and guide us toward peace and unity. Amen.
