Our Lady of Rivas

Marian title of Rivas-Vaciamadrid (Community of Madrid)
Recognized by the Church

The image and the sanctuary

The image called Our Lady of Rivas is a modern image, typical of a contemporary temple such as the parish of Santa Monica, where it receives worship. It is not known that it is an old size moved from a previous hermitage or sanctuary, but an image already venerated in the parish to which this title is now attributed. It does not contain the author, the exact date of realization or a detailed art sheet; any more precise description of attributes without written source would be conjecture.

Sponsorship and coronation

Our Lady of Rivas is a legitimate advocation and approved by the Bishop of Alcalá de Henares for his worship in the parish of Santa Monica. It is not known that he has been declared a canonical patron of the municipality of Rivas-Vaciamadrid by a special legal title. There is no canonical or liturgical coronation with diocesan decree.

Party and devotion

It does not contain in the verified public sources the liturgical date of the feast of Our Lady of Rivas, although it is likely that the parish has assigned a given day. The new advocation is lived in the parish as a gesture of closeness of the Virgin to the people of Rivas, as a sign of unity and comfort for the city. As it is a very recent advocation, there is still no body of historical miracles or ancient exvotes linked to it.

Link to the Rosary

There is no legal link or specific holder of Our Lady of Rivas with the Rosary. As in every parochial Marian devotion, the prayer of the Rosary before the image is common, but there is neither a rosarian advocation of its own nor a decree that officially links it to the Rosary.

A flower for the Virgin

It offers a simple prayer to this advocation. Pray a Hail Mary for Spain and for the peace of the world.

Pray Hail Mary
Sources: tradition of the sanctuary, diocesan information and Wikipedia in Spanish. The distinction between popular piety and documented ecclesial history is specific to this fact sheet; extraordinary accounts are presented as devotion and not as doctrinal pronunciation.
