Our Lady of Santeron
Serrana hermitage of Algarra · sign of union of two provinces (Cuenca)
In the heart of Serrania, the hermitage of Santerón brings together in Rome the peoples of Cuenca and the Rincón de Ademez; a local Virgin who comes down to Vallanca every seven years for a solemn septenary.
Origin and history
The hermitage of Santerón is raised on the southern side of the Santerón saw, in the border of Algarra, in the middle of Serrania. The devotion has been firmly established since the Modern Age, in continuity with the serrana asvocations of "Our Lady found"; the original image, a Virgin to dress, was destroyed in 1936, and the present one was carried out in Valencian workshops in the 1940s.
His devotion has a strong regional character: the main Romeria of Pentecost - especially linked to Vallanca, in the Rincón de Ademez - and, every seven years, a solemn septenary in which the image is taken to Vallanca. The Virgin is a sign of union between peoples of two provinces and two dioceses.
Formal patronage and canonical coronation: not found in the sources.
