Our Lady of the Caspian
The image of Our Lady of the Caspian is a wooden carving depicting the Virgin Mary with the infant Jesus, surrounded by boats and waves. Tradition says that the Virgin appeared to a fisherman from Turkmenbashi during a terrible storm on the Caspian Sea.
"Our Lady of the Caspian protects the fishermen of Turkmenistan on their voyages at sea."
Local anecdotes
The inhabitants of Turkmenbashi recount that during the Soviet era, parishioners secretly gathered to pray the Rosary before an image of Our Lady of the Caspian. Despite the persecution, their faith never died, and the faithful attributed this to the protection of the Virgin Mary.
