Origin and history

The monastery of Nuestra Señora de Valdevolores is a foundation of Dominican nuns dating back to the 15th century; its church is Gothic of that century, rebuilt at the end of the 17th century, and is declared Good of Cultural Interest. The community inhabited the cenobium until 2018; the Bishop of Mondoñedo- Ferrol maintains the Sunday cult in the church. A 15th-century Gothic size, miraculous, is venerated next to a Lignum Cruces.

Tradition tells that the image was found underground by a peasant on the grounds where today the monastery rises; a story presented as legend. Because of its membership of the Order of Preachers, the place is part of the Dominican charism so linked to the Rosary, although the sources do not document a rosarian practice of this advocation.

"Our Lady of Valdeflowers, pray for us."

Formal patronage and canonical coronation: not found in the sources.
