Marian devotion
Our Lady of the Bustar
Carbonero the Major (Segovia)
By the river Piron, a hermitage guards the Virgin of Bustar, patron of Carbonero the Major; a Romanesque size "throne of wisdom" of the 13th century, honored every 8 September.
Origin and history
The hermit-shrine of the Bustar is located about three kilometres from Carbonero el Mayor, by the river Piron, in the area of Los Ñares. In it is venerated a Romanesque size of polychrome wood from the 13th century, of the type "throne of wisdom" (the Saying Virgin with the Child), patron of the town.
The local tradition collects a legend of concealment of the image during the Muslim domain and its discovery centuries later, placing the apparition in the fountain of the Pozuelo, in the surroundings of the sanctuary. Devotion focuses on the Romry and acts around the hermitage on September 8.
Canonical coronation: not found in the sources.
