Patrona de Toro · "La Dueña" (Zamora)
Patrona de Toro and its alfoz, the Virgin of Canto - called "La Dueña" - is a medieval size venerated in its hermitage; canonically crowned in 1954, only comes out in procession on extraordinary occasions.
Origin and history
The image of Our Lady of Canto is a medieval size in polychrome sandstone, from the XII-XIII centuries, with the Child on its knees; already in the 16th century it is quoted as "The Owner." He was first venerated in the parish of San Juan de la Puebla and then in his present hermitage, with baroque altarpiece. It was canonically crowned on September 5, 1954.
She's a patron of Toro and her alfoz. The invocation "of the Canto" is explained by the pettic matter of the image and by the place of rolling songs where, according to legend, it was found by a farmer when he hit his plow. His devotion ends every 8 September with a great floral offering and the song of the anthem; the image, "of shrimp," only comes out in procession on extraordinary or begging occasions.
