Origin and history

The church of Nuestra Señora del Rivero is a twelfth-century Romanesque work, built on an altozano that dominates the Ribera del Duero; its porticada gallery served as a reference to the nearby church of San Miguel, one of the oldest of the porticado Soriano. The image is venerated as the patron of the villa, and the documented history of the sources is above all architectural and heritage.

The most characteristic devotional feature is the feast of the Concordia, on May 1, when the people of the region come to San Esteban de Gormaz with their pendons and offer them to the Virgin of the Rivero, in one of the celebrations with the greatest roots in the surroundings of the Sorian Duero.

"Our Lady of the Riverer, Mother of St. Stephen, pray for us."
