Marian devotion
Our Lady of the Robledo
Seweers · Sierra de France (Salamanca)
In Sequeros, with a view to the Peña de France, a church of medieval origin has a Romanesque size of the Virgin of Robledo; in its shrimp the remains of Simon Vela, linked to the finding of the Peña de France, rest.
Origin and history
The early temple of El Robledo was built in the 13th century; after a fire in 1622 it was reconstructed, and a Roman size of the Virgin of the Robledo of the 12th century was preserved in the shrimp. The whole is protected as a historical heritage.
A unique feature is his link with the Peña de France: in his shrimp they rest the remains of Simon Vela and the Moza Santa, characters linked to the discovery of that famous serrana advocation. The environment, with views of the Peña, makes the place a center of pilgrimage and local Marian devotion.
Formal patronage, own party and canonical coronation: they are not safely recorded in the sources.
