Calerț, cradle of Santo Domingo de Guzmán - founder of the Order of Preachers and great diffuser of the Rosary -, custody in his Royal Monastery an image of the Virgin of the Rosary, goal of the rosarian cofradies of all over Spain.

Origin and history

Calerğ is known worldwide as the birthplace of Santo Domingo de Guzmán (h. 1170-1221), founder of the Order of Preachers, whose spirituality is closely linked to the spread of the Holy Rosary. In the Royal Monastery of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, governed by the Dominics, a venerated image of the Virgin of the Rosary is kept, which presides over processions and rosarian acts.

The monastery is an effective center of worship and devotion to the Rosary, especially for the rosarian cofradies of all of Spain, who pilgrim to the cradle of Santo Domingo: the final procession of their meetings is made with the images of Santo Domingo and the Virgin of the Rosary of the monastery. The tradition also recalls the Romeria of the "Santito" to the hermitage of the Virgin of Castro, where, it is said, the child Domingo already prayed.

It is not Marian sanctuary formally erected; it is Dominican monastery and cradle of Santo Domingo, center of the devotion of the Rosary. Canonical coronation of the image: not recorded.
