Marian worship
Virgin of the Relief
Vitigudino (Salamanca) pattern
In a hermitage of likely medieval origin, on the outskirts of Vitigudino, the Virgin of the Relief, patron of the village, is sold; every summer he goes down in procession to the village and returns to his hermitage on August 15.
Origin and history
The hermitage of the Virgin of the Relief, of probable medieval origin and simple architecture, rises on the outskirts of Vitigudino and is a traditional setting of romaneries and celebrations that have consolidated the Marian cult as an identity element of the villa.
The devotion is lived in two moments: the downfall of the image from the hermitage to the parish on the last Saturday of July, and its return in procession to the hermitage around August 15, with massive participation of the people.
Formal patronage and canonical coronation: they are not safely recorded in the sources.
