Our Immaculate Lady of Trinh Phong (Vietnam)

Marian devotion

Our Immaculate Lady of Trinh Phong is a Marian statue raised in the passage of Ngoņn Mħc, on the border between the areas of Ninh Thuņn and Lâm Đng. His history belongs to the Catholic devotion of the region: a monumental image, a place of prayer and the return of public celebration after decades of interruption. There is no apparition or miracle associated with the statue.

Where is he?

The image is located at the point known locally as Eo Gio, in the upper part of the Ngoņn Mħc pass, next to the area of Sông Pha and Lâm Sůn. OpenStreetMap mapping the step as the way 774895340, with a point of reference at 11.8334, 108.6656. This coordinate represents the step and its environment, not the exact GPS of the pedestal: the precise position of the statue does not consist in an unequivocal cartographic geometry.

That's why the map uses an approximate stated accuracy. The local source places the image at the top of the pass, and the map retains that territorial reference without presenting it as an exact measurement of the sculpture.

Documented history

The statue was inaugurated on 8 December 1961, the feast of the Immaculate Conception. At a height of approximately six meters, it was part of a set of great Marian images raised in Vietnam between 1959 and 1961. Its location in a mountain pass made it a visible reference for those who crossed the route and for the Catholic communities of the region.

After 1975 the place was isolated from public celebration for a long period. The source on Trinh Phong describes how priests and peasants continued to approach discreetly, keeping the memory of the image when circumstances did not allow a normal pilgrim life. This continuity is a tradition of the community; it must not be transformed into a story of apparition.

El 15 April 2007 The priest André Lê Văn Hħi, parish priest of Sông Pha, presided over the first public mass held at the foot of the statue after thirty-one years. The celebration brought together about five hundred people, among Catholics and non-Catholic neighbours of Sông Pha, Lámc Lâm, Lámc Viên, Lámc Nghiņp and Ka Đô, according to the local chronicle.

The statue and the pilgrimage

Trinh Phong is, above all, a monumental image located in a mountain landscape. The pilgrimage consists of going to the place, praying and participating in celebrations when organized. The source does not provide a complete artistic file on the author, materials or exact measures of the monument; therefore these details are not completed with assumptions.

The environment of Ngoņn Mħc explains part of the identity of the place. The image is seen from a mountain road and has served as a reference point for the inhabitants of the nearby parishes. This geographical and devotional function is generally documented; it is not clear that the choice of the site responded to a supernatural message.

Tradition and Legend

The tradition retains the visit of priests and peasants during the years when public events could not be held, as well as the value of the 2007 Mass as a recovery of a visible practice. These memories help to understand the perseverance of the local Catholic community.

There is no independent legend of apparition, no healing or prodigy judged by the Church. The existence of pilgrims and a liturgical celebration does not in itself amount to a supernatural approval. When the statue is given special protection, it must be spoken of devotion and trust in the intercession of Mary.

Ecclesial State

Consta permitted Catholic veneration in the place, under the pastoral care of Sông Pha. The 2007 public mass and the continuity of prayer show a local pastoral reception. There is no formal decree to raise the place to sanctuary, a canonical coronation, or a pronunciation about apparitions or miracles. The fact sheet therefore distinguishes the documented cult from the recognition of supernatural phenomena, which does not contain.

Prayer

Those who pray before Our Immaculate Lady of Trinh Phong can ask, by her intercession, for strength for small communities, care for those who walk the mountain roads and peace for the families of Vietnam. The Rosary recalls that Mary leads to Christ: she is venerated as a mother and intercessor, while worship is addressed only to God.

Sources

The local chronicle on the United States of America on the site, the opening of 1961 and the public mass of 2007. The coordinate is an approximate reference of the passage of Ngoņn Mħc taken from OpenStreetMap, way 774895340; the exact GPS of the statue does not consist and is thus indicated on the map.

A place of memory between two regions

The local source describes Trinh Phong as a statue located in Eo Gio, the highest point of the Ngoņn Mħc pass and a border area between Ninh Thuğ n and Lâm Đng. This is why the place does not appear as an independent parish or as an apparition: it is a Marian monument attended from the community of Sông Pha. The pastoral relationship with this parish explains the 2007 Mass and the way in which the inhabitants of several nearby nuclei participated.

The figure of approximately five hundred people includes Catholics and neighbours who did not belong to the Church. It can be read as a fact of the concrete celebration, not as a permanent estimate of pilgrims. Nor does it contain a universally fixed annual feast, a coronation or a decree that attributes supernatural character to the site. The value of Trinh Phong is in the visible history of an image that was again given public veneration and in the prayer of those who visit it.
