Our Lady of the Tears of Campines

Marian devotion

Where is he?

The devotion of Our Lady of Tears is linked to Campinas, in the Brazilian state of São Paulo. The historical studies place the visionary accounts associated with Sister Amália of Jesus Flagelado and the Missionary Institute of Jesus Crucified. The conventional chapel mentioned in the sources belongs to the history of the case; there has not been an unequivocal cartographic geometry of that historical building located in this lot.

That's why the map uses -22.9056391, -47.0595640, the coordinates of the village of Campinas identified by OpenStreetMap (relation 298227), with precision locality. It does not appear as the exact point of the chapel, an apparition or an experience of Sister Amália.

Documented history

The academic research consulted studies the formation of religious devotions in Campinas from the Missionary Institute of Jesus Crucified. It is the beginning of the news about the visions of Jesus and Our Lady of Tears in the period 1928-1930 and it analyses the circulation of these news, the participation of religious and the response of different social sectors. The existence of a devotional account and its historical dissemination are facts other than the verification of its supernatural origin.

The research report on this project is the main date of the Marian apparition on 8 March 1930. It also warns that some devotional sources offer 1931 for certain milestones. This discrepancy is retained and no alternative date is chosen without a source to resolve it. Historical accuracy requires saying what date appears in each tradition and what date is documented by the study used.

The sources also mention written, the Crown of Tears and a medal associated with devotion. The academic study distinguishes the devotional movement, its documents, the testimonies and the intervention of ecclesiastical authorities. No healing or grace attributed to the medal becomes a recognized miracle without an individual file.

Tradition

The devotional tradition presents Mary under the title of Our Lady of Tears and relates prayer to compassion for suffering and the call to conversion. The faithful may ask for Mary's intercession before God and pray with confidence, but the effectiveness of a prayer should not be translated into an automatic promise of healing. Adoration is only for God; Mary is venerated as the Mother of Jesus.

The Crown of Tears is part of the transmission of this devotion. Their presence in publications and prayer groups documents a religious practice, does not in itself demonstrate the visions or each of the extraordinary testimonies associated with them.

Legend and limits of the record

The narrations about apparitions, stigmas, tears, cures and messages must remain differentiated. Historical research can study when they appear in the newspapers, in the archives or in the testimonies; this finding does not amount to declaring that the phenomenon was supernatural. This sheet does not present individual miracles as approved facts.

Ecclesial State

Consta permitted veneration in the sense that the academic report documents local authorizations for writings, the Crown and the medal, including an imprimatur dated 8 March 1932 according to the reconstruction consulted. Some devotional sources offer other dates, and the tab does not hide that discrepancy. There is no subsequent approval of the Holy See declaring all phenomena supernatural, nor a no obstat of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith; none is affirmed.

Anecdotes and stories

The case of Campinas shows how a devotion can grow around a religious community, publications and a network of testimonies. The academic research also studies the relationship between the press, religious authorities and people who were looking for information or thanks. This social dimension is part of the documentable history and allows us to understand devotion without reducing it to a unique affirmation of the supernatural.

Prayer

Holy Mary, Our Lady of Tears, intercede before God for those who suffer, for the sick and for those who seek comfort and conversion. Teach us to weep with those who weep, to serve with mercy and to follow Jesus Christ with a sincere heart. Amen.
