Marian devotion
Where is he?
The Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes of Egyam belongs to the Catholic diocese of Sekondi- Takoradi, in the Western Region of Ghana. The diocese publishes news about its annual pilgrimage and the celebration of its fiftieth anniversary. The consulted cartographic response does not offer an unequivocal OSM match for the Egyam Grotto; therefore the map uses the Western Region center as a reference and declares accuracy province. It's not the GPS from the sanctuary.
Documented history
The diocese of Sekondi- Takoradi identifies the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes of Egyam as an active place of pilgrimage. In the celebration of the anniversary of 2025, the stations of the Seven Dolores of the Virgin and the stations of the Divine Mercy were inaugurated and dedicated. The same diocesan communication describes the pilgrimage as a celebration of faith and devotion, not an investigation of an apparition.
The sources of work place the origin of the place in 1945 and point to an annual diocesan pilgrimage. The date is kept as a historical data attributed to the file consulted; no names of builders, plans, numbers of pilgrims or episodes are added that do not appear in an accessible and verifiable source. The diocese has also documented the visit of a pontifical representative to the Grotto, presented as an important event in its recent history.
Lourdes' devotion in Egyam
A grotto dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes extends in Ghana a form of Marian prayer linked to the memory of Lourdes, France. The image, the stations of the Way of the Cross or the pilgrimage help the faithful to pray; they do not make the place the stage of a new apparition. In Catholic practice, Mary is venerated and asked for her intercession before God through Jesus Christ.
The documented history of the sanctuary is compatible with an ordinary liturgical and pastoral life: pilgrimages, community prayer and seasons of devotion. The diocesan sources consulted do not contain an approved local apparition, a recognized concrete miracle or a no obstat specific to the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith.
Tradition and Legend
The research report contains oral reports of an apparition and of water. These stories belong to the local tradition as long as there is no ecclesial pronunciation that autorizes them. The file does not present them as proven facts or attribute cures to the grotto. When the Church organizes a pilgrimage or maintains a place of prayer, it attests to the pastoral life of the place, not necessarily the supernatural of all associated accounts.
Ecclesial State
The diocese of Sekondi- Takoradi publishes the activity of the Grotto and its diocesan pilgrimage. Registered permitted veneration for the sanctuary and public Catholic devotion. The local apparition is like no pronunciada in the sources consulted: there is no decree declaring it supernatural or a formal rejection accessible in this lot.
Prayer
Holy Mary, Mother of Jesus, accompanies the pilgrims of Egyam and teach us to seek God with a sincere heart. He intercede for the Church of Ghana, for the families and for those who need comfort, so that all devotion will lead to Christ. Amen.
