Our Lady of Perpetual Relief of La Mã (Vietnam)

Marian devotion

Where is he?

The Mã is located in the town of Hħng Nhħng, in the present southern territory of Vietnam. The location of the map is that of the town identified by Wikidata, not that of the exact building of the sanctuary: therefore the accuracy is maintained as locality. The tab deals with a venerated image and the history of its recovery, not a Marian apparition.

Documented history

The diocesan sources place the image's arrival by 1930. The image was lost on 2 February 1950 and was found again on 5 May of the same year in a channel or mud area. The local story tells that VħThħLiņng, a woman of Caodaist religion, participated in the finding. This data is part of the documented memory of the sanctuary and shows that the recovery was also known outside the Catholic community.

After the discovery, the solemn transfer of 20 June 1951 and the celebration of the image on 15 August 1951 were organized. The diocese of Vħnh Long reports on the research promoted by Bishop Pierre Ngô Đành Thħc and on the episcopal instruction of 11 February 1952, by which visits and pilgrimages were authorized. The new church was opened in January 1957.

These data make it possible to state the existence of a local history, a commission and an authorized pilgrimage. They do not automatically claim that a supernatural miracle has been recognized in every detail of the story or in every healing attributed to the image.

Tradition

Tradition tells that the painting, after months under the mud, was almost erased and gradually recovered its colors. It is also reported that the crowns of Mary and the Child reappeared. It is a central narrative for the devotion of La Mã, but should be read next to the available documentation and not as a technical file of supernatural restoration.

Legend and limits of the record

The many extraordinary cures and graces spread after the recovery are not presented here as recognized miracles: there is no individual medical file or decree in the cross-cutting sources to declare them miracles. The fact sheet also does not state that the religious state of the person who found the image itself constitutes a prodigy; it only retains the historical data transmitted by the diocese.

Ecclesial State

Se consigna veneration _ permitted because the diocese documents an episcopal instruction of 11 February 1952 that authorized visits and pilgrimages, in addition to a church and a public liturgical life. This authorization describes the worship and pastoral of the sanctuary; it does not amount to the formal approval of a miracle. The starting point of prayer is the intercession of Mary and her orientation towards Christ, not the worship of the image.

Anecdotes and stories

The recovery of the image is remembered as a history of encounter between people of different religious traditions. The participation of Vț ThħLiğ ng, as is preserved by diocesan sources, is part of the narrative identity of the place. The later pilgrimage turned a local finding into a center of prayer for faithful who ask for help, conversion and perseverance.

Prayer

St. Mary of Perpetual Relief, pray for those who seek hope in the midst of disease and difficulties. Help us to receive with gratitude the graces of God, to serve our brothers and to direct every request to Jesus Christ. Amen.

Historical context and prudence

The chronology of La Mã brings together several stages that should not be mixed: the arrival of the image by 1930, its loss in February 1950, the finding in May, the solemn transfer of 1951, the episcopal instruction of 1952 and the opening of the church in 1957. This succession explains the growth of the pilgrimage without requiring that all the material details of the painting be interpreted as a miracle.

The intervention of a committee appointed by the bishop and the authorization of visits have a concrete ecclesial value. They mean that the diocese took pastoral care of the place and allowed the pilgrimage. They do not mean that each healing testimony has passed a medical examination or that the Church has defined the recovery of colors as supernatural. The fact sheet thus retains both the seriousness of the authorisation and its limits.

The map is based on the coordinates of Hħng Nhħng, the location identified by Wikidata. The cartographic source does not offer in this check an unequivocal geometry of the building of the pilgrimage center, so the precision is not raised to "verified building." The location is sufficient for the story to be found without presenting an exact data that does not contain.

The Community's Memory

The history of La Mã is also preserved as an invitation to look at devotion from pastoral responsibility. An image found in striking circumstances can awaken prayer, but Christian life does not depend on attributing powers to matter. The authorization of the pilgrimage directs the faithful to conversion, help the needy and celebrate the sacraments. This is why the file retains the history of the finding, but leaves unconfirmed the extraordinary statements for which there is no public record.
