Where is he?
The Sanctuary of the Virgin of Cid is located in La Iglesuela del Cid, in the province of Teruel. The whole includes the hermitage, a host and the Fountain of Cid.
Documented history
The heritage information of the Government of Aragon places in place a Roman funeral temple of the 1st century The first known hermitage was built during the 14th or early 15th century. In 1546 the building was expanded and reformed; the chapel dedicated to the Holy Miracle Christ was built in 1728. The Sanctuary of the Virgin of the Cid was declared Good of Cultural Interest, in the category of Monument, by Decree 215 / 2001 of 18 September, published in the Official Gazette of Aragon on 8 October 2001.
Tradition
The heritage source shows that medieval devotion is linked to the apparition of a carved image of the Virgin to a shepherd in the place where the sanctuary is today. The same source indicates that the size would be dated in the 12th century. We present these data as a transmitted tradition, not a documented history of a supernatural fact.
Legend
According to the local tradition collected by the source, the advocation is called the Cid because Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar had visited the place on several occasions. This statement is not presented as a historical fact proven by the material documentation consulted.

Documentary extension
The heritage inventory of the Government of Aragón describes an austere exterior-looking hermitage, built with gilded masonry and quarry, whose cover of silery stands out on the wall of the Epistola. Inside, a straight header with a girola and gilded corridors leading to the chapel of the Holy Miracle Christ is preserved. The decoration rococo, with plant motifs and angelotes, was mutilated during the Civil War; the heritage source documents the damage as an intervention of the 20th century.
The same source places the set about forty minutes from La Iglesuela del Cid and distinguishes the layers of its history: the Roman funeral temple of the first century, the first Gothic hermitage of the XIV-XV centuries, the reform of 1546 and the chapel built in 1728. Decree 215 / 2001 protects the sanctuary as a Good of Cultural Interest, a category of Monument. This property protection attests to the historical and architectural value of the place, but does not amount to a pronunciation on the supernatural of the tradition of the image.
