The image and the sanctuary
The temple stands out for its rich program of fresh Marian of the 13th century, including a famous scene of the Sleeping of the Virgin painted in 1295. It is venerated within the Orthodox sphere and appears on the circuit of historical churches of Ohrid. There is no particular miraculous icon or catalogue of exvotes associated with the temple.
Sponsorship and coronation
There is no Latin-type canonical coronation or civil patronage. It is a temple dedicated to the Mother of God and venerated in the Orthodox field; for the Catholic Church it is a respected Eastern devotion.
Party and devotion
The advocation links with the feast of the Sleep of the Mother of God, very celebrated in the Orthodox calendar. The present dimension of the temple is above all historical-artistic and heritage visit; they do not contain, in the available sources, novena, co-fradia or specific contemporary Marian pilgrimages.
Link to the Rosary
The Latin rosary is not part of the piety of this Byzantine tradition, whose Marian devotion is expressed in the liturgy, the Akáthistos and the veneration of the icons of the Theotokos. The pictorial cycle of the 1295 Sleep testifies to the strong Marian tradition of Ohrid, a focus of prayer for the Mother of God shared by Catholics and Orthodox.
A flower for the Virgin
