The Shrine of Fatima was built in the place where the Virgin appeared to the pastoralists. The basilica was built in 1928 and was consecrated in 1953.
The sanctuary has a huge square that can accommodate hundreds of thousands of people. Every 13 May and 13 October, the square is filled with faithful.
Pope Francis visited Fatima in 2017 to celebrate the centenary of the apparitions.
The Shrine of Fatima is the heart of the Church in Portugal.
