Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception (Porto- Novo, Benin)
In Porto- Novo, capital of Benin, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, on the banks of the lagoon and considered the most beautiful church in the city. Founded in 1864, it sinks its roots in the evangelization of the African Missionaries of the African Missions of Lyonwho assumed the vicariate of Dahomey erected by Pius IX in 1860. Elevated to diocesan headquarters in 1955, its cathedral parish covers more than 25 neighborhoods and constitutes the pastoral heart of the Beninese capital, under the protection of the Immaculate Virgin.

- The cathedral is dedicated to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception and was founded in 1864, in the first years of the Catholic evangelization of the present Benin.
- His missionary root dates back to the Apostolic Vicariate of Dahomey, erected on August 28, 1860 by Pope Pius IX and entrusted to the Society of African Missions of Lyon.
- The seat was erected as Apostolic Vicariate of Porto- Novo on April 5, 1954 and was raised to diocese on September 14, 1955, integrated into the ecclesiastical province of Cotonou.
- In 2014 the diocese celebrated the Jubilee of the 150 years of evangelization, consistent with the foundation of the cathedral in 1864.
