The only approved Marian apparition in Africa.
Between 1981 and 1989, the Virgin Mary appeared to three young people in Kibeho, Rwanda. It is the only Marian apparition approved by the Catholic Church in Africa.
Kibeho's apparitions
The Virgin Mary appeared to Alphonsine Mumureke, Nathalie Mukamazimpaka, and Marie Claire Mukangango. She asked them to pray the Rosary and to do penance.
In 2001, the Bishop of Gikongoro officially approved the apparitions. The Kibeho shrine receives thousands of pilgrims each year.
