Cathedral of Sangre de Ekateremburgo
Ecaterimburgo, Urales
The cathedral was built at the site of the martyrdom of the last Tsar and his family.
The Cathedral of Blood (Khram-na- Krvi) was built in 2000- 2003 in the place where, on July 17, 1918, Tsar Nicholas II and his family were executed by the Bolsheviks. The cathedral is dedicated to all the new martyrs of Russia.
The Virgin and the Imperial Family
The last zarina, Alejandra Fiodorovna, was deeply devout of the Virgin Mary. Before his execution, the family is said to have prayed Psalm 51 and the Father. The Marian icons that the family had with them were recovered after the execution.
The Canonization of the Romanians
In 2000, the Moscow Patriarchate canonized Nicholas II and his family as new martyrs. The Cathedral of Ekaterimburg is today a place of pilgrimage where the faithful venerate the memory of the martyrs.
