In Honiara, the capital of the Solomon Islands, the Cathedral of St. Mary is the center of the Catholic faith. The Marist missionaries established devotion in the 19th century.

Faith in Solomon Islands

Solomon Islands is an archipelago of more than 900 islands. Catholics are a significant minority, about 20% of the population. The Virgin Mary is the mother who protects them on the islands.

Tradition tells that the Virgin protects Solomon Islands Catholics from the cyclones that hit the Pacific. The faithful pray the Rosary before the storms, asking for the protection of the Virgin.
