Origin and history
In the church of Saint Simeon of Zadar the Incorruted body of Saint Simeon the Justthe old man who, according to the Gospel of Luke, took the Child Jesus into his arms in the Presentation in the Temple, said the song Nunc dimittis and prophesied to Mary: «a ti misma una espada te atravesará el alma» - words that are the root of devotion to the Virgin of the Dolores. His relics, taken from Jerusalem to Venice, stood out in Zadar about 1203 by a storm and there they remained, in a famous silver ark of 1380 (protected by UNESCO) that opens every 8 October.
