Origin and history
The church of Santa María de Tabriz, completed in 1785 on a church of the 12th century, is the oldest and largest in the city. Marco Polo mentioned it about 1275 as he passed through Tabriz. Dedicated to the Mother of God, remember that in Islam Mary (Maryam) is also very venerated.
