Fontur's source on the patron parties indicates that in September El Paujil celebrates the Virgin of the Mercedes and that the temple of Our Lady of the Mercedes was founded in 1959 by the Missionaries of the Consolata. The same reference presents the Virgin as the patron of the people from that moment. These data describe the recent institutional origin of the temple and its feast; they should not be confused with a statement about the supernatural origin of the advocation.
