Our Lady of Victory of Wigratzbad

Marian devotion

Where is he?

Wigratzbad is a town in Opfenbach, Bavaria, Germany. The tab places the point in the cartographed town of Wigratzbad, not an exact place of an inner experience. The Gebetsstätte is known for the atonement church dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, in addition to the grotto and the chapel of grace that gave rise to the whole.

Documented history

The institutional history of the Gebetsstätte dates back to a Grotto of Lourdes raised in 1936. The chapel of grace was built in 1938, when the place began to receive an influx of people who came to pray. The chapel was soon insufficient for the prayer life that developed there.

In 1970, a project for a major church was prepared. The current atoning church, designed by the architect Gottfried Böhm, was built in 1973 and 1974. On 30 May 1976 the bishop of Augsburg Josef Stimpfle consecrated the temple. The diocese itself links this consecration to the recognition of Wigratzbad as a diocesan place of prayer. The later history of the sanctuary includes the pastoral care of the Family of Mary community since 2021, according to the diocesan information consulted.

The temple architecture uses a composition of ascending forms and luminous domes around the liturgical space. The provision does not in itself make the place the stage of an approved apparition: it documents a space of veneration, veneration and pilgrimage within the diocese.

Tradition and attributed experience

The local tradition relates the beginning of devotion to Antonie Rädler and to a mystical experience she would have lived in December 1936. In the devotional language of the place, this experience was linked to the title of Mary as "Immaculate Mother of Victory" or "Maria vom Sieg." This statement belongs to the origin account of the Gebetsstätte; it must not be confused with a body apparition proven by an ecclesial commission.

In the passage of time, the practice of prayer before the Most Holy, pilgrimages and requests for intercession were associated with Wigratzbad. The fact sheet retains that spiritual dimension without presenting as proven miracles the graces or favors that pilgrims can tell. A decree declaring supernatural the locutions or experiences attributed to the founder has not been located in the diocesan sources consulted.

Legend

There is no independent and old legendary cycle comparable to that of other shrines. The narrations on providential protection or favors received are part of the devotional memory of the place and should be read as testimony or tradition, not as certified historical facts without specific documentation.

Ecclesial State

Wigratzbad es una Prayer site, a diocesan place of prayer recognized by the diocese of Augsburg. This recognition refers to the place of worship and its pastoral care. It does not amount to an approval of a Marian apparition or a statement of supernatural on the experiences attributed to Antonie Rädler. That is why a state of "approved" to an apparition is not assigned here.

Anecdotes and stories

The atonement church was conceived for a community gathered around prayer and worship, and not just as a commemorative building. Among the practical characteristics of the place is the Eucharistic worship and a Marian procession by boat through Lake Constance, mentioned by the history of the Gebetsstätte. The diocese also recalled in 2026 the fiftieth anniversary of the consecration of the church, a sign of the institutional continuity of the place.

These activities help to understand why Wigratzbad appears on the maps as a sanctuary and place of prayer. The marker does not claim that every account associated with the site has received a favourable canonical judgment.

Prayer

Holy Mary, Mother of Jesus and Mother of the Church, accompanies those who seek God in prayer. Pray for us that, together with Christ, we will learn to trust, to serve and to persevere in good. Present our needs before your Son and help us to live with humility, hope and charity. Amen.

How to read the story of the place

The German word Prayer site can be translated as a place of prayer. In this case he describes a concrete reality: a consecrated church, a chapel of grace, a grotto, liturgical celebrations and a regular activity of worship. It is not a category equivalent to "approved apparition." The distinction is important because Wigratzbad was born in a context of Marian devotion and mystical experience, but the diocesan source consulted focuses its recognition on the place of prayer.

The succession of 1936, 1938, 1970, 1973- 1974 and 1976 allows a verifiable history of pastoral construction and consolidation to be followed. The expansion of the chapel and the creation of the great church respond to the growth of the community he went to pray. The architectural form of the temple, with its spaces around the altar and its luminous decks, expresses the intention to gather the assembly around Christ. Devotion to Mary appears within that Christian framework and is understood as a request for intercession, not as worship.

That is why this sheet offers two levels of information. First, the institutional data that the diocese and Gebetsstätte itself can document: building, consecration, pastoral recognition and current care. Second, the devotional memory of Antonie Rädler and the title of Mary Queen of Victory. Keeping them together, but clearly differentiated, allows respect for the faith of pilgrims without attributing to the Church a pronunciation that the sources consulted do not contain.
