In the old town of Yilan is the Church of Our Lady of Fatima, a Catholic community founded in 1955. His presence shows how the message of prayer, conversion and peace associated with Fatima took root in the north-east of Taiwan during the post-war missionary expansion.

A parish born in 1955
The national cultural record of Taiwan dates the foundation of the church in 1955 and places it on Shenghou Street, inside the historic city of Yilan. The community was attended to for decades by the Salvadorans; since October 2024 the pastoral care published by the Archdiocese corresponds to the Redemptorists.
The official record holds daily celebrations, Sunday Mass and weekly Eucharistic worship. This is why it is not only a building related to missionary memory: it remains an active parish.
Fatima in the north-east of Taiwan
The advocation refers to the apparitions of 1917 in Cova da Iria, Portugal, whose message was recognized by the Church. Mary presented herself as Our Lady of the Rosary and called for conversion, penance, prayer for peace and the daily prayer of the Rosary.
The Shrine of Fatima in Portugal expressly includes this Taiwanese church in its international repertoire of places dedicated to the advocation. A parish chronicle of Hsinchu also describes the presence of an image of Fatima with the three pastoralists in the temple of Yilan.
A different identity from Luodong
Yilan and Luodong are different cities in the same county. The church of Fatima is in Yilan City; in Luodong is the church of the Assumption of the Virgin, also called Beicheng Catholic Church. This geographical distinction avoids attributing to Luodong an advocation and direction corresponding to Yilan.
