In Wanrong, a mountain community of Hualien, the parish has the title of Holy Mary, Mother of God. Mary's motherhood proclaims who Jesus is - true God and true man - and becomes visible today in daily care work, especially towards the children and families of the Truku people.

Mother of God: a title that speaks of Jesus
The expression "Mother of God" does not mean that Mary is before God or the origin of divinity. He claims that the son who was truly born of her is one person: Jesus Christ, true God and true man.
Benedict XVI explained that the Greek title Theotokos was solemnly confirmed at the Council of Ephesus in 431. The discussion seemed to refer to Mary, but it protected a central truth about Christ: her divine and human natures are united in the only person of the Son.

The directory of the diocese of Hualien confirms that the parish celebrates in mandarin and truku. He also attends Jianqing, Xilin, Minglishang and Senrong, forming a pastoral network spread across different villages.
The truku language allows us to pray, sing and transmit faith from the people's own memory. This reality should not be treated as a folklore curiosity: the indigenous faithful are protagonists of the parish and custodians of its culture.
A church hidden in community life
A description of the temple indicates that the church occupies an elevated plant within the community complex. On arrival there is a small Marian space and, inside, the altar, the sacred and an image of Mary with the Child.
The ancient sacred is decorated with the Lamb over the book and seven signs that remember the sacraments. A Via Cruces carved in wood runs through the beams. These signs place Marian devotion within the mystery of Christ and the sacramental life of the Church.
A centre for the children of Wanrong
The Catholic Charity Foundation opened an educational centre for children in the parish on November 23, 2023. It provides special care to Truku students in households with economic difficulties, single-parent families or situations in which grandparents take up their upbringing.
From Monday to Friday it offers after-school accompaniment, academic support, indigenous language, artistic activities, exercise and human training. The stated objective is not only to improve studies, but to strengthen the value of culture itself and to provide children with a stable environment of care.
Maternity turned into care
The advocation here acquires a concrete expression. Calling Mary the Mother of God invites you to recognize the dignity of every child and to care for fragile life. The parish does not replace families: it creates a network that accompanies them and helps no child be abandoned for economic or social reasons.
This work requires protocols of protection, confidentiality and respect. The data, photographs and family circumstances of minors should not be disseminated without authorization and with a legitimate purpose.
Free y Truku culture
The church square has hosted Thanksgiving celebrations and activities of traditional Truku skills. Catholic faith and local culture are found when the community decides how to express its gratitude, not when indigenous elements are used as other people's decoration.
Mary, who took care of the Son of God in the fragility of a child, inspires a community that protects her little ones and listens to the voice of her elders.
