In Zarvanytsia, a small town in western Ukraine, is the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Zarvanytsia, the most important in Ukraine. The image was brought by the Basil monks in the 12th century.

Tradition tells that the image of the Virgin has worked many miracles: cures, conversions and protections. The faithful come from all over the country to ask for the intercession of the Virgin.
Every July, thousands of pilgrims arrive in Zarvanytsia to venerate the Virgin. The sanctuary is a symbol of Ukrainian faith and resistance to atheism.
