The 18 apparitions of the Virgin Mary to the persecuted Vietnamese Catholics.
In 1798, during the persecution of Vietnamese Catholics, the Virgin Mary appeared 18 times in the La Vang forest. The faithful took refuge in the jungle fleeing the persecution.
The apparitions of The Vang
La Virgen María apareció vestida con un ao dai (traje tradicional vietnamita) y les dijo: «No temáis. Yo estoy con vosotros.» Les enseñó a usar hojas de un árbol para curar sus enfermedades.
In 1802, the persecution ended and the faithful built a sanctuary in La Vang. In 1961, Pope John XXIII raised the sanctuary to the lower basilica. Today, The Vang is the most important Marian sanctuary in Vietnam.
