Marian devotion
Our Lady of Alba
Patrona de Quirós (Asturias)
On the peña de Alba, in the Aramo saw, a small mountain sanctuary guards Our Lady of Alba, patron of the council of Quirós, the goal of a busy high-rise Romeria on August 15.
Origin and history
The sanctuary is a small mountain temple, with a large devotional arraigo, canonically erected in 1581 thanks to a pontifical bull; the Marian devotion in the place has since been documented as a center of pilgrimages.
The origin of the cult is told in the key of legend: a young pastoralist named Mary, who prayed to a "beautiful Lady" who appeared in a cave of the rock, would have received from her a goat in place of a lost one; the people, when they came, found a size of the Virgin buried and raised her the hermitage. Patroness of Quirós, his Romeria of August 15, with gaita and drum and mass in the Quirosan language, is very busy.
Canonical coronation: not recorded.
