However, these expressions have a devotional and testimonial character; no verifiable chronological data on foundational events, wonders or legends of this image have been found in accessible sourcesand therefore cannot be strictly recorded.

The image and the sanctuary

The materials available (mainly videos and publications from local institutions) show the Our Lady of Candelaria of Sonsonate like a dress up image of the Virgin Mary who carries the Child Jesus and carries in her hands elements of this advocation (cirios / light), following the typical iconography of the Candelaria, although without a detailed official description available. In the diocesan calls it is explicitly mentioned that the people go "to the Cathedral" to honor Our Lady of the Candelaria at their feast, with processions that go out and return to this temple. It has not been found in the sources consulted that the cathedral has received a specific title of National sanctuary o minor basilica In a particular way, it is linked to this vocation; no formal recognition as a national Marian sanctuary is mentioned. Therefore, from a documentary point of view, no consta that the temple where the image is venerated has a special liturgical title different from that of diocesan cathedral.

Link to the Rosary

The sources consulted (diocese, local communications, institutional networks) highlight the procession, the patron's feast and the liturgical celebration of February 2but do not explicitly mention a tradition of this advocation which is particularly linked to the prayer of the Rosary. (for example, specific Rosary cofradies, public Rosary promises or diocesan campaigns under this title). Therefore, there is no documented particular link between Our Lady of Candelaria of Sonsonate and a practice of the Rosary differentiated from the usual Marian devotion.

From the spiritual point of view, the invocation of the Candelaria refers Mary as Mother who presents Christ, Light of the world (cf. Lk 2,22-32), and this dimension is naturally integrated in the prayer of the Rosary, especially in the joyful mysteries (Presentation of the Lord) and in the contemplation of Christ as a light that guides the life of the believer. To the extent that the people of Sonsonate are recognized as "the people of the Candelaria," the Rosary can be understood as a daily journey of union with the Virgin who leads to Jesus, light of the nations, in harmony with the local title "Lady of Light" which the institutions use to refer to this advocation. Although this relationship is not reflected in its own rules or statutes, the Rosary organically accompanies the Marian piety of the faithful who come to their patron on February 2 and throughout the year.
