Marian devotion
Our Lady of Flowers
Patrona de Alora (Malaga)
On the outskirts of Alora, in an ancient Franciscan convent, we are to be venerated to Our Lady of Flowers, patron of the villa, in a rural sanctuary that the diocese describes as "a place of peace."
Origin and history
The sanctuary is a Franciscan hermit-convent erected in the late 16th century and extended in the 18th century, the foundation of the Franciscan Order with intervention by Fra. Diego Gómez; the Franciscan remained until the decriminalization of 1835. The temple, of one ship, has shrimp on the main altar where the image is venerated.
Tradition links the origin of the image to the repopulation of Alora after the Reconquist by people of Encinasola (Huelva) and to an image donated by the Catholic Kings for the place of the first mass, which would explain the bond of fraternity between "perotes" and "marochos"; these stories belong to tradition. Patrona de Alora y Alcaldessa honoraria perpetuaria, was crowned canonically on 8 September 1984.
