Our Lady of Gaddor

Patrona de Berja (Almería)

At the foot of the Gádor saw, in the area of Pixnela, we venerate Our Lady of Gádor, patron of Berja and one of the most beloved images of the diocese of Almeria.

Place: Berja, Almería
Sanctuary: Sanctuary of Our Lady of Gaddor (Pixnela area)
Party: "September downfall" and patron parties
Patroness: de Berja

Origin and history

The tradition places the origin of the advocation at the end of the 16th century: in 1588, two hermitages, Sunday of St. John and John of St. Mary, had arrived in Berja with an image of the Virgin and settled in the area of Pixnela, giving the advocation the name of Our Lady of Gaddor.

The foundation of the sanctuary in 1588 is documented, built on ancient Moorish houses, and since then it is one of the main pilgrimage centers of the diocese of Almería, linked to the religious life of Berja. It is venerated as "Coronade," although the year of canonical coronation is not recorded in the sources.

"Our Lady of Gaddor, Mother of Berja, pray for us."
Sources: Shrine of Gádor; diocese of Almería; Wikipedia (consultation 10-6-2026). Foundation of 1588 for the hermit and patronage of Berja verified. Year of canonical coronation: not recorded.
