Our Lady of Grace

Patrona de Vila-real (Castellón)

In the area of the Termet, on the banks of the Mijares, the hermitage of the Mare de Déu de Gràcia keeps the patron of Vila- real, in a place of pilgrimage dating back to a hermit of the 14th century.

Origin and history

The place of worship dates back to 1375, when the hermit Bernat Fabra obtained permission to settle in a cave of the Mijares, becoming the area instead of pilgrimage; in 1383 the cult was consolidated to Our Lady of Grace. The present hermitage has been structured since 1577, and since 1633 the image of the patron has been on its altar.

In the annex, the "coveta," a faithful reproduction of the original image of the 14th century is kept. Its most loved feature is the Romeria from the hermitage of the Termet to the city, starting point of the ninth, in a natural environment of great beauty by the river.
