Origin and history
Our Lady of Guadalcanal is the Catholic patron of the Solomon Islands, held on 8 September (Nativity of Mary). The Catholicism was introduced by the French Marists in the 1840s, beginning with Guadalcanal and Malaita; the cathedral of the Santa Cruz de Honiara welcomes its great celebrations.
