Our Lady of Guadalupe is the patron of Baena (Córdoba). According to tradition, in the place where there was a hermitage of San Sebastián the Virgin appeared to a gentleman who was on the pilgrimage to the shrine of Guadalupe in Extremadura, dismissing him from his vote provided he had his image painted there; since then he was venerated under this advocation.
