Origin and history

About "Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe de Campeche" in Colombia there is no solid information in regular sources of verification (diocesan documentation, official sanctuaries, Marian databases or Catholic press). There is no "Diocesano Mariano de Guadalupe Sanctuary" in the San Cristóbal district of Campeche, Colombia nor does it know that there is a city called Campeche in the department of Bolívar or in another Colombian department with the profile described; what does exist is the State of Campeche in Mexicowith strong Guadalupana devotion.

Since the indicated temple is described as built in 1797, "second Guadalupan shrine after the Tepeyac" and "unique in the southeast," these data coincide with the Mexican Guadalupan tradition and not with Colombia, which indicates a likely geographical confusion between Campeche (Mexico) and the alleged "Campeche, Colombia." In the absence of confirmation in Colombian ecclesial sources, does not historically record the documented existence of this advocation with these characteristics in Colombia.

As a result, a guidance report on the local devotion to the Virgin of Guadalupe under the generic title of Our Lady of Guadalupe in a hypothetical diocesan parish or sanctuary in Colombia, without attributing historical or legal data that are not documented. When a data is not attested, it is "not recorded."

The image and the sanctuary

No consta una documented description of a specific image of "Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe de Campeche" in Colombia (type of image, material, author, date). In an ordinary Guadalupan context, it is often a image of the Virgin of Guadalupe of Mexico, whether in canvas, picture or reproduction, with the known iconography: the Virgin mestiza on her feet, hands together in prayer, blue, starry, pink robe, black nearer, held by an angel and framed in an oval of rays. However, for the specific case of Campeche (Colombia) does not contain an own and differentiated description, so nothing else can be said.

Nor does the formal existence of a "Diocesano Mariano de Guadalupe Sanctuary" in the San Cristóbal district, Campeche city, Colombia nor the recognition of the temple as diocesan or national shrine. There is no data on its architectural plant, style, dimensions, or independent confirmation of the date of 1797 for a Marian temple of that title in Colombian territory. Consequently, no consta officially the name, canon range (minor basilica, national / diocesan sanctuary) or architectural characteristics of that temple in Colombia.
